My husband cannot take criticism, but he loves to criticize me & my parents all the time.

Wife’s perception: I’ve been married to my husband for over two years. Since the first month of our wedding, my husband kept on taunting me and criticizing everything I did. No matter how hard I worked, he always found something wrong with it. Ours was an arranged marriage, and I wasn’t very comfortable around him yet, so I kept quiet, thinking he’ll eventually stop. But it only got worse.
He started criticizing my parents too. Whenever we visit my parent’s home, he comments about how the house isn’t clean enough, or the food isn’t tasty. Of course, my parents don’t say anything out of respect for him, but I can’t stand my parents being disgraced like this. I also fear that this may lead to a huge fight between my husband and me. What should I do? Sometimes I feel I could have done much better!
Expert advice: Nobody likes to get treated badly. Talk to him directly if your husband is doing something you don’t like.

Talk about these issues to your partner, patiently listen to them and then work out a solution together.
- Tell him what you like and didn’t like and, most importantly, why.
- Tell him that if he crosses it again, there will be certain consequences.
It doesn’t have to be something huge; it could be as simple and effective as the silent treatment. If he still continues this type of behavior, stay true to your words and do what you promised.
